El sarcoma de Kaposi clásico es una entidad clínica muy poco frecuente y actualmente no existe un tratamiento estándar para las lesiones extensas. Se trataron cinco pacientes masculinos con lesiones nodulares en los pies con la doxorrubicina liposomal 20 mg/m² cada 21 días, por 4 a 6 ciclos. Se obtuvo un 80 % de respuestas completas y un 100 % de beneficio clínico durante un seguimiento promedio de 3 años (rango, 1-4). No hubo ninguna toxicidad. Se puede concluir que nuestros pacientes tienen características clínicas particulares, y la doxorrubicina liposomal podría ser considerada como la droga de primera línea para el tratamiento del sarcoma de Kaposi clásico extenso debido a su excelente respuesta clínica y la ausencia de toxicidad.
The classic Kaposi´s sarcoma is a clinical entity with a very low frequency; and actually, there is not a standard treatment for the extensive lesions. We treat five male patients with nodular lesions on the feet; they were treated with liposomal doxorubicin, 20 mg/m² every 21 days for 4-6 cycles. There were 80 % of complete responses and 100 % of clinical benefit during a mean follow up period of 3 years (range, 1-4). There was not toxicity. It can be concluded that our patients have particular clinical characteristics, and the liposomal doxorubicin could be considered as first line treatment for patients with extensive lesions of classic Kaposi´s sarcoma because of the excellent responses and the absence of toxicity.
