Los schwannoma son tumores de origen neuroectodérmico relativamente raros. Se derivan de la vaina de los nervios periféricos, específicamente de las células de Schwann. Una alta proporción de estos tumores se desarrollan en el área de cabeza y cuello, pudiendo involucrar los pares craneales, la cadena simpática cervical o incluso el plexo braquial. Cuando afecta al nervio frénico usualmente ocurre en su porción mediastinal, siendo muy infrecuente la afectación de la porción cervical, encontrándose solo cuatro reportes de casos en la literatura. Se presenta el caso de una paciente de 73 años de edad quien presenta un tumor en la región posterolateral derecha del cuello, tratado quirúrgicamente mediante resección de la lesión con sección del tronco principal del nervio frénico que resultó tratarse de un schwannoma.
The schwannoma are relatively rare tumors of neuroectodermal origin. They tumors arise from the sheath of the peripheral nerve, called the Schwann cells. A high proportion of these tumors developed in the head and neck area, and most of them may involve cranial nerves, the cervical sympathetic chain or the brachial plexus. When it affects the phrenic nerve, it usually occurs in the mediastinal portion of the nerve, being the cervical portion nerves is a very infrequent location; therefore, there are only four reported cases in the literature review. We present this case regards of a 73 year old woman with a presence in the right posterolateral neck a tumor, surgically treated by neoplasm excision with phrenic nerve main trunk section, finally reported as a schwannoma.
